Curiosity
Is he thinking about the beauty of autumn? Or observing the resemblance of the maple leaf to his own fingers?
Animals are often smarter than we think! A poetic nature photograph.
The calm melancholy that dominates the mood, and how the shades of red (in the leaf and in the monkeys’ faces) echo each other.

Heavy rains in Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya
© Regi Popelier (Photographer of the Year 2018 entrant)
The wet or green season in the Maasai Mara happens from November to April. In this season there are two rainy periods: the short rains in November and the heavy rains in April and May. Many lodges and camps may close over the heavy rainy period because dirt roads turn muddy, rivers flood their banks, and visitor numbers are lower.

Seemingly secure and relaxed, a Mother gorilla dreams whilst a youngster tenderly shares her comfort zone, confident and safe in the knowledge that he is loved and cared for, in the way that only mothers can guarantee.
In the Bwindi Impenetrable forest in Uganda, after a long steep climb over difficult trails, our guide suddenly told us to be quiet. A few moments later, we found ourselves in the middle of the gentle giants, the Mubare gorilla family. Laying in short distance from the main group, my attention was drawn by a mother and her youngster.
Both were resting in the lush green. It was a peaceful retreat of tenderness and affection compared to the vivid activity of the group on the other side.
In this image, the beauty of the scene perfectly captures the essence of serenity. Catching expressions and emotions is what drives me in nature photography.
