Hokkaido

My photography is shaped by time spent in Hokkaido across different seasons, first during a summer stay with my family and later through repeated visits in both winter and summer. For photographers alike, Hokkaido offers a rare creative space where the passage of the year completely reinvents the same landscapes. I am drawn to this enormous contrast and the way it alters not only the visual environment but also my approach behind the camera.

In summer, I explore the island’s vibrant flower fields, open horizons, and gentle northern light, seeking compositions rich in color and atmosphere. Winter, by contrast, reduces Hokkaido to elemental form such as snow, ice, wind, and mist. These dramatic shifts challenge me to adapt my technique, moving between wide-angle perspectives for expansive scenes and telephoto lenses for more intimate images of wildlife and remote details.

Through my images, I aim to capture the spirit of Hokkaido’s seasonal extremes and to reveal how light and weather shape the character of a place. My work reflects a continuing dialogue with this landscape, one that encourages patience, observation, and respect for the changing natural world.
