From Pacific Shores to the Heart of the Amazon
Peru is a country of extraordinary contrasts, and for me its appeal lies precisely in this constant change of landscape, climate and wildlife. A journey can begin beside the Pacific Ocean, continue through desert and mountains, and eventually lead deep into the immense wilderness of the Amazon.
Along the Pacific coast, golden desert meets rugged cliffs and a restless ocean. Seabirds move above the waves while powerful surf crashes against the rocks. It is a harsh environment, but one where life has adapted remarkably well to the meeting point of desert and sea.
Further inland, everything changes. The Amazon rainforest becomes a world of dense vegetation, waterways, sound and movement. In Manu National Park, one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth, every walk becomes an exercise in observation. Birds may appear for only seconds, mammals remain hidden in the vegetation, and countless smaller creatures reveal themselves only when you stop and look carefully.
This is what I enjoy most about travelling through wild places: you never really know what the next moment will bring. A bird crossing the sky, an animal watching from the shadows or a small detail in the forest can become more memorable than the spectacular landscape you came to photograph.
Peru also reminded me that wildlife photography is not simply about finding animals. It is about understanding the environment in which they live, remaining patient and being prepared when an opportunity finally appears.
From the Pacific coast to the Amazon, Peru offered an extraordinary succession of worlds. The photographs that follow are not intended to describe the whole country, but to preserve some of the moments when landscape, wildlife, light and observation came together in front of my lens.
