Elephants, the largest land mammals, have long shaped India’s history, mythology, culture, and religion. One autumn, accepting a friend’s invitation, I ventured into Jim Corbett National Park to witness a rare spectacle: up to 300 of these majestic creatures gathering in one place.
Before dawn, we drove along the river cameras ready, knowing the herds would follow familiar paths through the tall grasses. As the first light touched the mist, they appeared, a slow, deliberate parade, grey forms emerging like ghosts, moving in perfect columns. Every step was a rhythm of power and serenity, a living river of strength, tradition, and timelessness.
Through the lens, I tried to capture their grandeur, but no image could hold the feeling: the quiet hush of the morning, the soft shimmer of mist, the awe of watching so much life in motion.
