The most iconic cheetah mother that ever lived in the Mara, photographed here with one of her cubs. Malaika had eight litters, but out of those eight she raised only five cubs to independence.
A few months after I photographed her with her cubs, she disappeared; it is believed that she drowned or fell victim to a crocodile. Both animals shown in this photo are no longer alive.
